Vitamin D and our beloved sun

As you may have noticed from all the press coverage in recent years, vitamin D is important for all of us. Even with regards to SARS-CoV-2, vitamin D has been in the news numerous times and preliminary studies suggest that those with a vitamin D deficiency is far more prevalent in patients with severe COVID–19 disease requiring ICU admission and thereby increased chances of mortality.

It sounds so cliché but it is so true; we are mostly made out of water. Overall the human body exists of about 60% water. Without water we wouldn't exist. However, a lot of people do not drink enough water these days as we have replaced it by 'fake' drinks such as coffee, sports drinks, soft drinks, alcohol.

I walk into the same trap as you, although I (…) should know better. For instance, I didn’t have much time for lunch yesterday, so I downed my precious food (an organic 4 egg omelette with leek, tomato, red onion and mushrooms, nicely fried in virgin coconut oil) without even realizing I was eating it.

For decades we have been spending hours on the treadmill, jogging for miles and miles, cycling from east to west, or swimming 100 laps in an Olympic sized swimming pool in order to lose weight, gain muscle and get fit. Every morning when I bring my little boy to school I see people jogging mindlessly hoping to shed a few pounds.

Recently a documentary called "What The Health" was released. As some of my friends highly recommended it, I started watching it. Unfortunately (after having seen pretty much all health related documentaries that have come out since 15 years) it didn't take long for me to find out that this one carries an agenda and omitted to truly look at what is best for our health in the process.
